Intro
Hello Mom and Dad, I have learned a lot of things in all my subjects. Some of the things i learned will be showed in my portfolio. The two things I'm good at is phys.ed and I guess science. The two things i need to improve on are math and french. My goals for the last 6 weeks of school are to do homework right away, study, focus on school more often, try more in class, and get ready for exams. Adult Response
In looking at your work I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:

My Subjects
Math
Term 1 Reflection This term I have learned about Rate, Ratio, and Proportion Reasoning. This unit was sort of okay for me, making numbers into a ratio, finding the unit rate and the unit price. Proportional reasoning was a little hard because sometimes i wouldn't know what to do. Squaring numbers where easy to me because I know my math. Square rooting is pretty much okay with me. In math class do most of my homework but sometime i only do half. I could have been lazy which cause that or i might not know what to do sometimes. In term 2 I will try to finish my work in class so that i don’t have homework to do and so i can actually know what I am doing. I will also do better in my tests and my quizzes to make my mark better.
This past term I learned about percents, surface area, and volume. I honestly think i did better on finding volume because i understood it more quickly and better. I also think i did better in finding volume because i remembered mostly everything about it more then i remember stuff in surface area and percents. I think i struggled more in surface compared to percents because it took me a while to get it and i got a little confused. I can do better in the next term by asking more questions about something if i don't get it right away since sometimes I can just be silent about it and working more harder. In this term i learned a lot of things like finding the surface area and volume of a cylinder, triangular prism , and rectangular prism.

Iqbal Explore Response Chapter 1
I have finished reading chapter one of the novel, Iqbal by Francesco D’Ademas. The genre of this book falls into realistic fiction. In the book the author has chosen not to include any images. This book is written as a novel. The authors purpose in writing Iqbal is to inform the reader the issue of child labour. I am reading this text to gain deeper understanding about the on going issue of employing children in factories and work shops. Child labour is a human rights issue that everyone should be aware of. The most important key words in the story are Hussian Khan, Fatima, slate, debt, rupee, and numskulls. Hussian Khan is important because he is one of the main characters in the story and his role in the story is a master. Fatima is important because she is also one of the main characters and is the narrator in the story. Slate is an important word because it shows how much the family owes in debt. Rupee is and important word because that what the children get paid. The last word numskull is an important word because they are kids who are chained for not working hard or for complaining a lot. Some organizational features that can help me read this novel or get in my way of understanding is that the format of this novel is realistic fiction. Also the chapter are only by number with no title on them at all. I can relate to this story by comparing this novel to child labour today. Child labour in the novel is sort of the same as today. Children still work in factories and are forced to work for very long hours. Also the children in child labour today also have kids that are at a really young age just like the novel. i can evaluate by thinking about my connections and a ha questions. Most of my connections were spoken about my relate paragraph. I do have one a ha question though. I wonder why Iqbal was mentioned in the last sentence in the last paragraph of this chapter?
GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components: Subject: TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment? I game myself a 7 out of 10. I gave myself this mark because my tablet is simple. My tablet is simple because i made easy offerings. Also my tablet wasn't square.I actually really liked this activity. Making clay figures or representations of something is really fun in my opinion. I find it difficult how you have to take out the bits of clay with a toothpick because sometimes you don't get the bits out.Next time I should make a more difficult symbol. I say this because it would be more of a challenge to my learning. Also i should make my tablet an actual shape.
